What to Expect

The Birth Control Prescription Process

1

Step 1: Consultation

Your appointment to receive birth control should be straightforward, timely, and enjoyable. For your first visit at FeminologyMD, we conduct a thorough consultation where Dr. Priya Patel will meet with you. We evaluate your medical history, your concerns, and your goals to determine which birth control option may be a good fit for you.

2

Step 2: Prescription

Some types of birth control, such as the pill, you can take at home without a medical professional. We will instruct you on dosage and administration at your appointment. Other birth control options, such as a Nexplanon or IUD, must be administered by a physician, and will require a follow-up appointment for insertion.

Step 3: Follow-Up

We will provide you with aftercare instructions as needed. Otherwise, you can begin enjoying all the benefits of birth control! If you find that your current method isn’t working out for you, then we welcome you back into our office to try other birth control options. We ask our patients to return once a year for their well woman exam and to check in regarding their birth control.

Meet Dr. Patel

Our founder, Dr. Priya Sureddi Patel, MD, FACOG, FAAMM, ABAARM, is double board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and by the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. This dual board certification gives her a unique perspective, which was the impetus behind FeminologyMD.

“I wanted to create a center for women that resets the standard of what healthcare should be.”

Her goal is to take a deeper look into your biological makeup and treat you as a whole person, not just a symptom, so she can help you feel like you again.

Frequently Asked Questions About Birth Control in Dallas

What kind of birth control options do you offer?

FeminologyMD offers many birth control options in Dallas, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The most commonly known method is the pill, where patients take a pill daily to prevent ovulation and regulate their hormones. Other short-term methods include a patch, vaginal ring, or an injection. Some patients prefer low-maintenance, longer-acting methods such as the Nexplanon implant or the IUD, which can remain in place for several years.

How effective is birth control?

The effectiveness of birth control varies, depending on the type. Plus, several options, like the pill, require correct usage from the patient for maximum effectiveness. When used correctly, these birth control methods are 99%+ effective: the pill, implant, or IUD. However, whether or not they are right for you depends on a variety of factors, which we will determine at your consultation.

Do I have to be on hormones for birth control?

While most birth control options do use hormones, there are hormone-free methods, known as barrier methods. These include condoms, diaphragms, and the copper IUD.
