What to Expect

The Gynecology Surgery Process

1

Step 1: Consultation

If you experience heavy menstrual bleeding, painful cramps, or other related symptoms, surgery could be a solution for you. For your first visit, we’ll conduct a thorough consultation where you will meet with Dr. Priya Patel and develop a customized treatment plan. We’ll review your medical history and your symptoms to determine if surgery is the best option for you.

2

Step 2: Surgery

For any in-office procedure, we will use sedation as needed depending on your needs and comfort level. We may perform a hysteroscopy to examine the inside of the uterus using a tiny camera. This helps us identify abnormalities and diagnose any conditions. If needed, we can also perform an endometrial ablation to burn the lining of the uterus, which reduces or stops menstrual bleeding.

3

Step 3: Recovery & Follow-Up

While the procedures we perform are outpatient and minimally invasive, we encourage you to take it easy for a day or two. We’ll follow up with you to discuss the results of your surgery and how you are feeling.

Meet Dr. Patel

Our founder, Dr. Priya Sureddi Patel, MD, FACOG, FAAMM, ABAARM, is double board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and by the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. This dual board certification gives her a unique perspective, which was the impetus behind FeminologyMD.

“I wanted to create a center for women that resets the standard of what healthcare should be.”

Her goal is to take a deeper look into your biological makeup and treat you as a whole person, not just a symptom, so she can help you feel like you again.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gynecology Surgeries

Why might I need a hysteroscopy?

Generally, we use a hysteroscopy to examine and diagnose any issues within the uterus. This can include irregular or excess menstrual bleeding, polyps, fibroids, abnormal pap smear results, and endometriosis. We can also remove polyps or fibroids, take a tissue sample, or perform endometrial ablation at the same time as a hysteroscopy.

Why might I need endometrial ablation?

Endometrial ablation treats irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding, which most often occurs near or during menopause. If you struggle with heavy bleeding, then an endometrial ablation might be an option for you. However, it is not safe for women to get pregnant after an endometrial ablation, so this procedure is not for women who may want to get pregnant in the future. However, an endometrial ablation is not birth control, so we advise individuals who have had an endometrial ablation to also be on birth control to prevent pregnancy.

Is there downtime after these procedures?

Most patients feel well enough to return to work after a day. We will provide you with exact aftercare instructions before your gynecology surgery in Dallas.
